Our Members
|
Our congregation is a diverse group of individuals and families who meet in the warmth of fellowship to celebrate life, create opportunities for spiritual growth, and act to further our goal of building a world of peace and love, dignity and equality, freedom and justice. We share the ministry of the congregation with Rev. Lane Cobb, our minister.
Unitarian Universalism is an ethical rather than a doctrinal religion. Grounded in Jewish and Christian traditions, we follow the Biblical injunction to "Love thy neighbor as thyself." Freedom of belief holds the place that is ordinarily accorded to doctrine in some religions. Unitarian Universalists work together for peace and justice in our communities. |

Who comes here?
Our members come from many religious and non-religious backgrounds. Some people find meaning in our efforts to make a difference in the world; others are searching for a spiritual home where questioning and dialogue are valued. Many interfaith families come seeking a liberal, non-creedal religious community.
We welcome everyone, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, and sexual or affectional orientation. Come as you are!

Becoming a member
If you've spent some time with our congregation and feel that you've found your new spiritual home, we invite you to become a member of Fourth UU.
Membership at Fourth UU is voluntary, signified by signing our membership book; there are no creedal tests or special procedures to join. If you wish to join our Congregation, speak with either our minister or a member of the Membership Committee. We hold a New Member Recognition ceremony periodically during a Sunday service, to acknowledge our commitments to each other.
Commitment to our Congregation makes you a part of our faith community. Our expectation of members is that they participate in our shared ministry, vote on congregational issues at Membership meetings, and contribute to Fourth UU both financially and with their time and energy. You will also be a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association, and receive a free subscription to the quarterly UUA magazine UU World.
